About Ryan Wilson
Background
I received my bachelor’s degree in journalism from Lincoln University, an HBCU in Jefferson City, Missouri, in 2003. Later, I earned my master’s degree in education from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri.
Professional Journey
After completing my undergraduate degree in 2003, I accepted a position at Lincoln University, where I worked for nine years in various roles. During my time at Lincoln, I volunteered by coaching youth sports and mentoring at-risk high school students in the Jefferson City Public Schools. Additionally, I served on the board of Parks and Recreation.
In 2012, I transitioned to Saint Louis University, joining their Student Support Services department, a TRIO program assisting first-generation, low-income, and learning-disabled students. Currently, I work for the School of Education at SLU, partnering with K-12 schools in St. Louis and Kansas City to help prepare students for life after high school. My responsibilities also include planning college transition programs and workshops for SLU students.
Commitment to Strong Communities
Passionate about community service, I actively volunteer with several organizations. I am involved in the PTA at Crossroads Elementary, contribute to the Wentzville School District Foundation, and serve as a board member of the United Nations Association of Saint Louis and the StL College Kids. Additionally, I am a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.
I firmly believe that strong communities are built on a foundation of communication, opportunity, and support. Throughout my 19-year career in both higher education and K-12 settings, my focus has been on preparing youth for college and nurturing them to be better citizens. I continue to work tirelessly to ensure that these values are reflected in everything I do.
VISION FOR DARDENNE PRAIRIE'S DEVELOPMENT
Traffic Alignment Concerns
Using subdivision streets to support commercial traffic aligns differently with Dardenne Prairie's family-friendly character.
Preserving Character
Altering Dardenne Prairie's unique personality through the construction of multifamily housing is not progress. Future development should be based on what builders can give to the city rather than what they'll take away through economic incentives.
Collaborative Leadership
Leadership must be collaborative, creative, and inclusive. As a city official, I will work to create respectful dialogue methods with all residents.
